Spring Has Arrived at the NY Botanical Gardens

Spring is here! The snow is finally melting away, and April showers will be bringing May flowers very soon. While the residents of our Stamford apartments wait for their landscaped grounds to green up and the flowers to bloom, I know someplace to go where spring has already arrived!

The NY Botanical Gardens! What? You’ve never been there? Never? Not even on a school trip in grade school? Well, here’s your chance! It’s easy to get to by car or train; it has flowers exhibits, forests, meadows, and even an authentic Japanese water garden to stroll through. AND its right next to the world famous Bronx Zoo so you can make a day of it, if you like.

Right now, the Botanical Garden is in the middle of its annual Orchid Show. The theme is “The Orchid Show: On Broadway,” and it features the stages of several legendary Broadway theaters done entirely with thousands of orchids (think of the floats in the Rose Parade), as well as a collection of sketches by Al Hirschfeld, the famous caricature artist whose work lines the walls of famous NYC landmarks such as Sardi’s supper club.

For residents of our downtown Stamford apartments, it’s an easy day-trip. They can leave their car at the Metro North station in downtown Stamford, and take the train to Grand Central Station. Then, hop on the Harlem Line North. The Botanical Garden has its own train stop that’s right across the street from the entrance.
