Satisfy your Sweet Tooth at the Maple Sugar Festival

By

Stamford CT ApartmentThis weekend, the annual Maple Sugar Festival returns providing hours of family fun to residents and visitors in Stamford. Hosted by the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, this popular event is the perfect opportunity to get out of your Stamford, CT apartment and enjoy some time with family and friends.

Rain or shine, the festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees can cross the farmlands to the little red sugarhouse on Heckscher Farm and see firsthand how sap is turned into sweet maple syrup. The process was started last week when SM&NC volunteers drilled holes and inserted metal sprouts into trees. Buckets were then hung to capture the dripping sap, which is boiled down into syrup and bottled for consumption. Museum workers will exhibit the process offering maple sugaring demonstrations throughout the weekend.

Visitors to the festival will get the opportunity to taste the finished product with a spread of maple-sugar goodies available for tasting and purchase throughout the weekend. Families will also enjoy making a maple-themed craft, participating in a scavenger hunt, having their face painted and more.

On Saturday, sample and vote on delicious dishes created by local chefs in an “Iron Chef”-inspired cook-off. Prior winning dishes include maple-glazed popcorn with prosciutto and maple-marinated pork sliders. On Sunday, individuals are invited to attend a pancake brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
