Residents of Apartments in Hamden, CT Celebrate Earth Day at Annual Event

apartments in Hamden CTThis Saturday, April 20, 2013, celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the first Earth Day at the 7th Annual Hamden Earth Day Celebration. Residents of nearby apartments in Hamden, CT, are invited to attend this FREE family-friendly event held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hamden Middle School.

The event will include a wide variety of shows and activities. Specific show times are as follows:

  • 9:00 a.m. – Pre-event bird walk lead by Florence McBride
  • 10:30 a.m. – Reptile show by Hamden High School (also on exhibit all day)
  • 11:00 a.m. – Scott Kessel’s recycled musical instruments
  • Noon – Orchid Awards presented by Mayor Scott D. Jackson
  • 12:15 p.m. – Scott Kessel’s recycled musical instruments
  • 1:15 p.m. – Audubon Birds of Prey
  • 2:20 p.m. – C.J. May’s Magical Energy Show

In addition to the hands-on reptile exhibit, individuals will enjoy a petting zoo, scavenger hunt, face painting, decoupage water bottle vases, bookmark craft, using recyclables to make wind chimes and a woodworking project. The CT Child Identification Program will also be in attendance to provide identification packets for children. Food vendors include Glenwood, J-Roo’s, Thai Awesome Restaurant, Gourmet Lady and Mike’s Enterprises. There will be a FREE raffle for a children’s bike and helmet donated by D’Aniello’s Amity Bike, so do not forget to enter.

Recycling is a big portion of Earth Day, so attendees are encouraged to bring old cell phones, ink cartridges, eyeglasses and batteries for recycling. Additionally, the celebration will provide a free, confidential and safe place to dispose of unwanted or unused medications.
