Just in time for spring vacation, Maritime Aquarium is offering a week of aquatic adventures for kids from Monday, April 13 to Friday, April 17! For children ages 6 to 8, themed programs will be offered daily with the options of attending all five days or choosing which days to visit. Children ages 9 to 12 will be offered an exciting opportunity to attend a weeklong Junior Marine Biologist camp, complete with science experiments led by Aquarium experts! Program hours for each group are from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If your child is a budding scientist with a fascination for animals, the Junior Marine Biologist 1 program is the perfect opportunity for active, hands-on learning. During this five-day program, children ages 9 to 12 will work behind-the-scenes to set up and maintain an aquarium with live animals. Participants will learn how to monitor water quality, grow brine shrimp to feed their aquarium animals, dissect squid and fish and work in the Aquarium lab with microscopes to identify organisms from the Long Island Sound. Following the completion of this exciting program, campers will be eligible to take the second and third levels of the Junior Marine Biologist course during the summer! Parents can get in on the fun too by attending an Open House at the end of the program, where they can see all the exciting work that their children have accomplished during the week!

For younger scientists, Maritime Aquarium is offering a different theme every day for children ages 6 to 8. The camp will kick off on Monday, April 13 with a “Whale of a Day,” where children will discover the fascinating life of whales through activities, puzzles and a brand new IMAX® movie on Humpback Whales. On Tuesday, campers will visit “Turtle Town” to interact with the Maritime Aquarium’s turtle inhabitants, learn about how these reptiles adapt to land and sea and stop by the new “Dragons” exhibit to meet some other reptiles. For children with a mind for creativity, Wednesday’s “Sound Art” program will allow campers to gather inspiration through a guided tour of the Aquarium followed by a day in the art studio, where they will create fossils, draw, paint and show off their artistic side.

For Thursday’s theme, campers can learn about every child’s favorite ocean animal by attending the “Shark Safari.” Children will get to touch a real shark at the Shark and Ray Touch Pool, learn about different kinds of sharks and their adaptations and get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look to discover how Aquarium handlers care for these animals. The camp will conclude on Friday with an Earth Day celebration themed “Blue Planet,” where participants will learn how water sustains life and how to become a responsible conservationist to support the environment. Additionally, campers will get to meet live Aquarium inhabitants and take a walk along the Norwalk River to discover birds and other animals that live near the river.
