Festive Ways to Decorate Your Apartment for the Holidays

Christmas candles and lightsIncorporating your personality into your apartment décor is one of the many ways you can make it shine this holiday season, and fortunately, you don’t have to go over-the-top or break the bank to do it! The apartments and townhomes for rent at Seramonte in Hamden offer spacious open floor plans with lots of room to entertain guests and add your own decorations. Here are just a few easy and affordable ways to jazz up your space:

  • Create your own “wreath” using holiday cards you receive, old family photos showing off your traditions (remember wearing those matching pajamas, anyone?) and decorative printed paper from a local scrapbook store or your favorite wrapping paper.
  • Warm things up using candles or white lights. Group an assortment of glass jars and vases and add floating tea lights for a soft, sparkly glow. Add fresh flowers, bright berries or holly sprigs for an even more festive look!
  • Drape garland around mirrors or doorways for a simple and stylish solution.
  • Use a piece of twine or ribbon to tie cinnamon sticks around a candle jar.  Not only does it look cute, but once lit, will fill your apartment with a wonderful aroma that smells like “home.”
  • Spray pine cones with silver and gold metallic paint. Let dry completely and then add to a large glass vase for a fantastic table centerpiece.
  • Start a new tradition! Purchase a white oven-proof plate from a local store and add a personalized message using a ceramic paint pen.  Set the oven to 350 degrees and “bake” the plate for 30 minutes to cure the paint. (Be sure to follow manufacturer’s instructions for this process.) Our favorite message is “The Giving Plate” as seen on Pinterest, but the options are limitless. The message of the giving plate:This plate shall have no owner for its journey never ends, It travels in a circle of our family and friends. It carries love from home to home for everyone to share. The food that’s placed upon it was made with love and care, so please enjoy what’s on the plate then fill it up again, then pass along the love it holds to your family and friends.
