Experience Local History by Volunteering at Shore Line Trolley Museum

Shore Line Trolley MuseumIf you’re a fan of local history and getting involved with your community, Shore Line Trolley Museum is hosting a Volunteer Open House on Saturday, Jan. 17. Stop by any time between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to learn more about working on the railroad!

The Trolley Museum offers its guests a unique opportunity to ride on trolley cars and learn about their history. Volunteers spanning several age groups help to operate the 65+ trolley cars, maintain trolley equipment, build and repair tracks, digitize records for the museum’s archive and many other duties. Training for these responsibilities is provided by the museum’s experts, so no prior experience is needed to be a volunteer. The Volunteer Open House will provide an opportunity to speak directly to the museum’s operators and sign up for operator training classes, which are offered in late winter and early spring. Additionally, the event will include experts representing signal, track, building and groups, publicity and marketing, and trolley maintenance.

Containing over 100 vintage vehicles and artifacts, the Shore Line Trolley Museum was founded to preserve the historical importance of the trolley car era and has since become an important part of the community. It was originally incorporated in 1945 as the Branford Electric Railway Association and is the oldest continuously operating suburban trolley line in the nation. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, the museum relies on the continuous service and dedication of its 1,000+ members and volunteers to help bring the past alive.
