Earlier this month, city officials announced that Washington Street will be getting a makeover in 2015 – freshening up the heart of SoNo by repaving the main road, as well as upgrading some of the brick sidewalks and adding new landscaping.

According to an article in The Hour Online, Director of Public Works Harold F. Alvord explained that while many of the charming cobblestone sidewalks will be retained, improvements will be made to the road and damaged patches of pavement. New crosswalks will likely be installed as well, similar to those found at the intersection of Washington Street and Water and North Water Streets, according to the article.

In a separate project, the city is also planning to replace the existing Branford Pear trees on the bustling street to further prevent their deep root systems from damaging the sidewalks. This work is expected to occur in late 2015 or early 2016.

With or without new pavement, Washington Street and SoNo have established strong reputations for being a foodie’s paradise, with delicious dining opportunities of all kinds, including Italian, Indian cuisine, authentic Mexican, pub grub, American, Japanese, and fresh seafood, all within minutes of the apartment community of Morningside Gardens.

Shoppers are also drawn to the trendy, eclectic stores along the water where shops are anything but “cookie-cutter.” SoNo features more than 30 unique boutiques, gift shops, antique outlets and more, in addition to exciting nightlife venues, art museums and the nearby Maritime Aquarium.

The charming South Norwalk district is approximately one mile from the apartments for rent at Morningside Gardens, where residents enjoy private, well appointed one-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom townhomes along beautifully manicured grounds. Residents of this Norwalk community will enjoy 24-hour maintenance services, as well as ample on-site parking, access controlled front doors, spacious floor plans showcasing carpeting and hardwood flooring, ceramic tiled kitchens and baths, and much more.
