See many lighthouses at Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium

Come see this one and 23 more at the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium's Festival of Lighthouses

Residents of our Morningside Gardens Norwalk apartments are just a short trip away from one of the season’s most magical local events: an opportunity to walk a trail illuminated by 24 hand-crafted lighthouses. These lighthouses are creatively built using everything from stone, gingerbread, toilet paper tubes, sugar cubes from France and even more crazy materials in the 10th annual “Festival of Lighthouses” at The Maritime Aquarium.

The festival runs now through Jan. 16, 2012, and Aquarium visitors can follow these homemade beacons through the galleries and cast a vote for their favorite. The lighthouse with the most votes wins $1,500! The display is free with Maritime Aquarium admission, normally $12.95 for adults and $9.95 for children, and a trip to the aquarium can easily be an entire day’s worth of learning and wonder.

Rules are kept to a minimum to allow for maximum creativity. Lighthouses must be 3 to 6 feet tall and have a working light, and may not include animal remains (including shells). Beyond that, it’s up to the creators’ imaginations. Entries in the display this year include a lighthouse made out of toilet-paper tubes, another made of welded copper, a Cat in the Hat-themed lighthouse, a lighthouse whose shingles are made from men’s neckties and another made of gingerbread. Dance lessons close for Stamford rental apartments residents

Stamford residents can take great dance lessons only a few blocks away

Here’s an idea for some great winter fun for those living in Stamford rental apartments! How about a dance class? Not the kind you’re probably picturing with stuffy rooms and dusty windows with old records on a turntable. This one is way more fun. I’m talking about Maria Fiora Dance Studio on Summer Street. It’s only a few blocks south from our downtown Stamford apartment communities but it’s a world away in experience offering a terrific way to stay in shape, try out a new hobby and make some new friends!

Maria and her staff not only offer classes in dance but in health & wellness for stress relief, relaxation and dance for weight loss. They are fully trained and highly experienced in giving lessons to all ages and abilities. They are sure to have something to peak your interest such as an introductory program where students are taught the basics of each type of dance. Afterwards you and your instructor will evaluate which program is best for you.

There’s also private personal training. This is the most direct and efficient way to learn, with a main focus on partnership and the details of leading or following your partner. There are also group sessions with anywhere from six to 20 students. There are even children’s dance classes in Latin, Ballroom, Tango, Salsa and Ballet for ages as young as four! Read More→

There’s also a Hallmark store with plentiful choices of holiday as well as other greeting cards and lots of nice gift options and stocking-stuffer ideas.

Another store of interest in the Plaza is the Perfect Party Superstore, with any and everything to fill your needs for any and every holiday. When you’re at Hamden Plaza, you can also make a stop at ShopRite which is a great place for grab-and-go prepared foods, and it’s a place where you can also get your flu shot.

On the same side of Dixwell Avenue, there is also a Men’s Warehouse. Their fabulous window displays feature some very handsome men’s clothing for the favorite guy in your life. The well established Bon Ton department store has a great selection of clothing for the whole family, and if you are watching your budget then you might like to know that they have some very good holiday sales and specials. Safety tips for Branford Residents

With frost like this coming, there are important winter safety tips to remember.

As December rolls around, it’s time to start bundling up, enjoying time by the fire and breaking out the hot cider. There are always a few important winter safety concerns we would like to remind Branford apartment rentals residents  as cold weather and frost begin to affect our lives.

Remember when you are out enjoying shopping or spending time with friends and family, make sure that cars can see you. For those that prefer to do their shopping at super early door busters that pop up around the holidays or busy workers who can’t hit the shops until after dark, this is especially true. An investment in reflective gear, or reflective tape to apply to your current repertoire of winter clothing is a great idea for increasing visibility. Be sure to use crosswalks and follow traffic rules no matter what time of day you’re trying to bag that great deal. Read More→

downtown Stamford theater

Stamford Rental Apartments near Theatre Scene

One of the big benefits of living in downtown Stamford rental apartments is being so close to all you want to do. For instance, the theatre season has opened and, once again, Stamford is playing host to a number of productions from dramatic presentations, to concerts, symphonies and one-man shows.

The Palace Theater in downtown Stamford is a wonderful venue to see live performances. It’s an historic gem of downtown Stamford; nearly 100 years old and completely renovated in recent years to restore it to its original splendor with gold-gilt moldings, velvet curtains and a spectacular crystal chandelier. This season you can choose from the music of The Rascals, comedienne Joan Rivers, the Stamford Symphony’s Brahms presentation or a concert by legendary Joan Baez. Read More→

Weird is Normal Near Your CT Apartments in October

It’s now October; a time when you expect to walk out of your Connecticut apartments and see something a little unusual. Did you know that in common years January starts on the same day of the week as October, but no other month starts on the same day of the week as October in leap years? October ends on the same day of the week as February every year and January in common years only. And in leap years, October starts on the same day as August of the previous year. Now that you are thoroughly confused, suffice it to say that October is commonly associated with autumn in our part of the world.

Although many of Connecticut’s fall festivals have already taken place, there are still lots of festivals yet to come. You can start planning your upcoming weekend activities by visiting http://festivalnet.com/state/connecticut/ct.html for further info.

If there is any month where weird is normal, most certainly it is the month of October. It’s the month when most folks shop and search for something unusual that on any other day of the year would be considered crazy or odd. It all leads up to one thing – the scariest day of the year – Halloween! It’s the time when werewolves, vampires and all other creatures and monsters can relax, blend in to the population and “fit in” with the rest of us. Read More→

Norwalk apartments

Norwalk Apartments Near the Wonders of Fall

It happens every year near your Norwalk apartments. The weather turns a little cooler, shorts and sandals are replaced by shoes and sweaters and my two boys announce it’s time to go apple picking. It’s really fun to take advantage of the cooler weather to spend the day outside at a local farm or farm stand, pick way too many apples or peaches and maybe take a hayride or get your picture taken with a real scarecrow.

Residents of our Morningside Gardens apartments in Norwalk have a number of farm stands and pick-your-own farms to choose from. One of the local places you may not have tried yet is Warrup’s Farm in Redding. It’s a small, family-owned farm operated by the Hill Family and they specialize in homegrown organic farming. Everything they grow is certified organic by Stellar Certification Services, assuring us and them that their soil is in optimal health, able to support plant life without the use of herbicides of pesticides. Feast of San Gennaro

Easy Access to Feast of San Gennaro from Stamford Apartments

Fall has arrived (yeah!) and this season promises to be chock-full of things to do and places to go near your Stamford apartment rentals. County Fairs, apple picking, new museum exhibits and plays opening at local theatres are just a few examples of some of the offerings residents of Downtown Stamford have to choose from. But one of the best regional events every September has to be the Feast of San Gennaro.  2011 marks the 85th year of this Feast; New York City’s longest-running, biggest and most revered outdoor festival in the United States. It started Thursday, Sept. 15, and runs through this Sunday, Sept. 25 on the streets of historic Little Italy.

More than one million people from the four corners of the globe are expected to participate in the annual Salute to the Patron Saint of Naples. Although this is an annual celebration of faith, the Feast of San Gennaro is known the world over for its festive atmosphere, an 11-day event featuring religious processions and colorful parades, free musical entertainment every day, a wide variety of ethnic food delicacies, charming restaurants and cafes and even a world-famous cannoli-eating competition! Celebrate Stamford

Here’s a great way to close out the summer with one last fabulous event near your Stamford apartment rentals! Stamford’s Mayor, Michael Pavia has announced that a fireworks display will be scheduled for today at Kosciuszko Park. The “Celebrate Stamford” event will also include local musical and dance acts.

“I’m incredibly excited to bring fireworks back to Stamford and to showcase the new development at Harbor Point,” Pavia stated in a press release. “This event came together incredibly quickly and it shows that when the City of Stamford gets behind something, we can produce tremendous results quickly. Private business, the city and both the police and fire departments all had to work together to make this wonderful event possible.”

Located at Elmcroft Road and Dyke Lane on the shores of Stamford Harbor, Kosciuszko Park is just about 1 mile south of our downtown Stamford apartments; just a few minutes’ drive for our residents who live in Morgan manor, Hoyt-Bedford and the Townhouse Apartments. The park is a 7-acre waterfront peninsula that contains a wide walkway around the perimeter which encircles ball fields and a children’s playground. The site has plenty of parking and –bonus!- does not require a fee or park sticker so you can invite all your friends to join you!
