See many lighthouses at Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium

Come see this one and 23 more at the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium's Festival of Lighthouses

Residents of our Morningside Gardens Norwalk apartments are just a short trip away from one of the season’s most magical local events: an opportunity to walk a trail illuminated by 24 hand-crafted lighthouses. These lighthouses are creatively built using everything from stone, gingerbread, toilet paper tubes, sugar cubes from France and even more crazy materials in the 10th annual “Festival of Lighthouses” at The Maritime Aquarium.

The festival runs now through Jan. 16, 2012, and Aquarium visitors can follow these homemade beacons through the galleries and cast a vote for their favorite. The lighthouse with the most votes wins $1,500! The display is free with Maritime Aquarium admission, normally $12.95 for adults and $9.95 for children, and a trip to the aquarium can easily be an entire day’s worth of learning and wonder.

Rules are kept to a minimum to allow for maximum creativity. Lighthouses must be 3 to 6 feet tall and have a working light, and may not include animal remains (including shells). Beyond that, it’s up to the creators’ imaginations. Entries in the display this year include a lighthouse made out of toilet-paper tubes, another made of welded copper, a Cat in the Hat-themed lighthouse, a lighthouse whose shingles are made from men’s neckties and another made of gingerbread. The thought of furnishing Hamden rental apartments might have you worried. But, there are ways and means of finding inexpensive furnishings that can save you time, energy and money. Of course, if you are starting out fresh you have a lot of more options, but if you already have furniture you can make a few small changes or tweaks in design that will go a long way.

If the main piece of furniture in your living room is a couch or futon, a simple slipcover can change not only the color but the style and look as well. There’s a wealth of options and ideas for all furniture types at Sure Fit.

Usually, good use of small space is small furniture. The use of acrylic or glass is often great for creating an illusion of space, and mirrors are a wonderful accessory as they reflect light and create an open feeling. In the alternative, sometimes large pieces in small spaces are effective.  It’s a good idea to use the measurements on the floorplan of the apartment you plan to furnish which can usually be obtained at the leasing office of the rental community or on their website.  You can either measure the furniture you are planning to place or visit the Better Homes and Gardens website where you can arrange a room online. Spring Moving Tips

Posted by: Luxury | Comments (0)

If you are one of the multitude planning to move this spring or summer, you certainly aren’t alone. Lots of local families and professionals transferring into the area choose the end of the school year to make their move. But not to worry – We’re here to help. Our leasing office staff is all native to Stamford so they are a great source of local “inside” information like finding a new family doctor or where to get the freshest seafood in town. With our three downtown Stamford rentals of Morgan Manor, Hoyt-Bedford and the Townhouse apartment communities, we can help you find just what you’re looking for. Do you prefer hardwood floors or carpets? Would you prefer a high-rise with a great city-view or a smaller community with quiet bricked walkways and shady lawns? No matter what your preferences, we’ve got you covered!

The rule of thumb for rentals is to start looking online approximately three months before you need to move. Narrow down the neighborhoods of interest to you as well as the available amenities each apartment community offers and start making a short list of your must-haves. Once you’ve got a list of the desired apartments you’d like to explore, start making appointments to see them about 5 weeks before you plan to move. See as many locations on your list as you can, and don’t forget to ask for floor plans, take notes and be prepared to take measurements.  Ask about move-in requirements: do you need to reserve the elevator? Are there restricted times/days to move in? Are the locations close to shopping, beaches or downtown? Read More→

Happy Birthday, Justin

Posted by: Luxury | Comments (0)

On Saturday, March 5, the Leasing Office at Montoya Apartments played host to a belated birthday party for Justin Bieber, who had turned 17 on the first. Montoya is a beautifully landscaped community of Branford apartments, and just a few minutes from New Haven and Yale.

The Leasing Office, which is open every day, is a converted one bedroom one bath garden-style apartment, so there was plenty of room for the ten or so young girls and one boy who attended.

The Office furnished milk, juice and donuts for the fans that brought their own music as well as games and posters for the walls. As the kids ate, drank and listened to Justin’s music, they talked about which of them Justin was going to marry. Bieber has many fans of all ages, but for young girls between 8 and 14, he is nothing short of a benign epidemic.

Between games and art projects, the kids filled out guest cards and pretended to rent an apartment. One wanted a “gigantic” condo so she could use the seasonal pool. Another wanted a two bedroom apartment plus a garage for her Justin Bieber collection. Read More→

Stamford Apartments Moving Tips

Posted by: Luxury | Comments (0)

The weather is not the only thing that’s warming up as springtime settles in. This time of year, the housing market starts to get busier each month as folks try to time their moves with spring break and the end of the school year. Here at Stamford Apartments, we often get calls asking about availability for anywhere from immediate occupancy to those who don’t plan to move for several months, as well as the annual influx of corporate summer interns looking for short-term leases. The rule of thumb for rentals is to start looking online approximately three months before you need to move. Narrow down the neighborhoods of interest to you as well as the available amenities each apartment community offers and start making a short list of your must-haves. These might include being within walking distance to the train station or having a washer and dryer in the apartment or finding an apartment close to downtown Stamford. Read More→

Here Comes the Sun

Posted by: Luxury | Comments (0)

Whether you live in or near one of the Hamden apartments near Quinnipiac College, one of the Hamden apartments near Southern CT State, one of the apartments near New Haven University, or any place in Connecticut for that matter, you are part of the vast population ever so happy to finally see sunny skies. The very first thing that came to mind when I saw sunny skies is the ever popular Beatles song, Here Comes the Sun. It certainly has been a very long, very cold and very lonely winter in our State, and there couldn’t be a better description than what George Harrison expressed in these lyrics:

Here comes the sun, do do do do
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right

Little darling
It’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling
It feels like years since it’s been here

Here comes the sun, do do do do Read More→
