A Good Walk Spoiled

By

Motorcycles are emerging from their garages for their first outing of the season. Landscapers, at least in the New Haven area, are doing spring clean ups of the grounds of Branford apartments. Barbecue grills are appearing on decks and patios. Windows are being opened for the first time since last fall. Outside pools and tennis courts are getting prepared for summer.

But now that you can finally see the grass, for many it is time to head to the greens. Mark Twain once described golf as “a good walk spoiled,” but for many the serenity and beauty of golf is the ultimate escape from the hustle and bustle of I-95 commutes and New Haven careers. The Branford area for example has a surprising number of public courses, not to mention many private courses and clubs.

Here are but some of the public and municipal courses in the Branford area, all of which are less than 20 minutes from Branford.

  • Twin Lakes Golf Course in North Branford
  • Alling Memorial Golf Course in New Haven
  • Guilford Lakes Golf Course in Guilford
  • The Tradition Golf Club in Wallingford
  • Orange Hills Country Club in Orange
  • Laurel View Country Club in Hamden
  • Sleeping Giant Golf Course in Hamden
  • The Orchards in Milford
